Step It Up Patrick

Alright so the Boxxy thing fell through so instead, I decided to take a few min­utes to talk about Patrick McNally’s video mak­ing ability/​progress. To make it short and sweet, Patrick’s video ideas are awe­some but almost short of pure awe­some­ness because of technical/​production prob­lems. Since I’ve never made a short film, maybe I don’t know what it takes but I feel that I have a pretty good grasp on it. Let’s start with my back­ground in video just to make sure I can’t be torn com­pletely to shreds.

My video pro­duc­tion “career,” if you could put it that way, began Sep­tem­ber of the 2008 school year in Mater Dei’s Tele­vi­sion Pro­duc­tion I. At first, I was a lit­tle intim­i­dated by the equip­ment, teach­ers, and frankly, some of the other stu­dents. I slowly became accli­mated to the MDTV cli­mate and I was able to hold my own in only a cou­ple of weeks. At MDTV, stu­dents learn a vari­ety of video pro­duc­tion, edit­ing, light­ing, sound, and var­i­ous other A/​V skills. Granted only so much can be taught in one year about these things, but I took in as much as I could. I would pay close atten­tion to the video pro­duc­tion videos shown in class and I attended almost every event MDTV filmed along with my partner-​​in-​​crime, Chris Parten.
